Life Lately

It’s been 5 months since I wrote a blog post! I’m back and want to get into a routine of posting regularly again because I miss it! Once I started my full-time job back up after my maternity leave ended in early December I felt like all I was doing was surviving during the work week, and blogging completely fell off my radar. Leo started day care (we call it school) in January and a few months in it feels like we finally have a routine.

Having a baby certainly changes things. It has truthfully been the best and most rewarding thing in our lives. IT has also been a major shift in figuring out how to still have “me time” for both Nathan and I. My me time is usually walking the dogs, getting a quick workout in, zooming my friends, re-styling things around the house, or blogging. I’m happy to say we’ve been a lot better about making sure we each get some time during the week, which means you can expect a return to more regular posts here.

You may have noticed Leo’s helmet in the picture above. He got a cranial band (helmet) about a month ago to help fix a flat spot on the side of his head. We are fortunate that it’s something that is easily addressed and he is perfect healthy.

Summer Planning

Do you have any plans to travel this summer? We did zero traveling last year as I know a lot of other people did too. We will both be fully vaccinated by the end of the month and we are very excited to be planning 2 very low key summer vacations – first we are going to stay in a rented house out side of Nashville with Nathan’s family for a week and later this summer we are going to northern Michigan to stay at my grandparent’s lake house with my family. We are driving for both trips and are a little nervous about it – mainly that we have planned two separate 8 hour and 14 hour road trips. Especially considering Leo is not a fan of the carseat. I’ve gotten a lot of good travel recommendations and ideas from friends, but if you have suggestions I’m all ears – I would greatly appreciate suggestions in the comments below!!

So far the travel and road trip must haves I’ve been recommended are the following (Leo will be 8/9 months for our trips):

  • Slumberpod (since we’ll be sharing a room with Leo on both trips we’ll put it over our pack n’ play)
  • Baby carrier (for light hiking and walking around town – we have a carrier that we love, but want a more adaptable one now that Leo’s getting bigger!)
  • Battery operated fan (to use in the car and walking around with the stroller)
  • A few new toys for the car

Are we still doing DIY projects?

The short answer is yes. That longer answer is more complicated. We’ve realized that while we’re both working full time and now that we have a baby, it just doesn’t make sense for us to do larger scale DIY renovations ourselves. Any larger projects that we want to do in the next year or so we will likely hire out, but we still plan to do some smaller projects.

Smaller projects we plan to do ourselves:

  • Finish the main closet (this one feels pretty big, but we already started so we’re going to roll will the DIY plan)
  • Refresh Nathan’s office upstairs (paint, an office chair, maybe a new bookshelf, hang some art)
  • Quick refresh of the guest room (new bedding, hang some art)
  • Mount the TV and baby proof the house (this needs to happen soon!!)

Larger projects we’ve discussed hiring out:

  • Additional landscaping along our back fence
  • Replacing our patio door and kitchen windows
  • Phase 2 of a kitchen/laundry room renovation (this one is a HUGE maybe, but there are things in our kitchen that need to be replaced in the near future, like our DIY concrete counters – they have served us well, but were never meant to be the solution for this long and they are starting to show a lot of wear!)

This post serves a little update on where things are in our house! Have a wonderful weekend!
