Warm, sunny spring days are so good for the soul. I always forget how quickly it can shift my mood, until it does. We’ve lucked out recently with weather recently in the Kansas City area. Hot and humid summer days will be here before we know it, but for now I am soaking in the spring weather. Leo loves to be outside (and so do we! and the dogs!) so the past few weekends we have been spending a good deal of time on our patio. We are hoping to do the same this weekend. I am so glad we had our patio refinished a few years ago.
We have been continuing to educate ourselves and make improvements to our household and our habits that are better for the environment. Thinking of it as “Earth Life” instead of just focusing on “Earth Day” is a mindset shift I am on board with. I know Earth Day is more about awareness and celebration of our earth and that is so, so important, but for myself thinking of it as a lifestyle shift vs. one day is helpful. This post goes into a lot of great ideas you can implement as lifestyle changes for a positive impact on the environment. We already compost, focus on eating more plant based meals, and wash our laundry in cold water, but there are so many more changes we can make for the better. I would like to start air drying clothes when possible, switch to compostable trash bags, and really, really try to shop second hand more often, especially for home decor and furniture.
I’ve been spending a decent amount of time reflecting on how much we have done to our house to make it our own in the past 5 (!!) years we’ve lived here. When we purchased our home it was well loved and very well taken care of, but it was not necessarily our style. We are privileged and fortunate to be able to make changes to our home. This article reflects on what to do when your home’s before is someone else’s after and I think it’s a really good, thoughtful read. Dramatic before and afters are definitely something (and I will continue to share before and afters), but reframing the way I think and talk about the before is something I can and will certainly try to do.
I am not a huge clothes shopper, but I like to get a few new pieces seasonally. This sienna colored T-shirt feels a little more dressed up than my usual plain T and I’ve been wearing it on repeat paired with my favorite comfortable sandals. I’m wearing both in the picture above! I used to have a pair of Birkenstock sandals until Pete chewed through the straps when he was a puppy 6 years ago, these look a likes have been a great alternative. I wanted a black T-shirt material dress that I could use as a bathing suit cover-up, but also be an option for date night/getting a little dressed up for dinner (whenever we start going out to eat again) – this dress checked all the boxes!
Have a great weekend!
