I’m working hard on my office refresh this week, it’s getting so close! Lots of little DIY projects to make the space what I envisioned – a pleated lamp shade, a fluted lamp, and adding curtains and artwork! One of the finishing touches to re-assembling my office is getting my desk in order. For the past few years I had been using books to raise my monitor to a comfortable height, but to spruce up the look a bit I bought this stand. Unfortunately (or fortunately??) it was a little too tall for my needs, so I asked Nathan to build me one with custom dimensions and I’m so glad I did. It the perfect fit. It’s a simple project, but might be a future DIY post.

Monitor Stand - The Adored Abode

A DIY custom monitor stand was the perfect solution for my new desk!

We recently learned that as of the start of 2022 trash bins are permitted to be stored outside of the garage in our neighborhood – which for the sake of our not so large garage is an exciting prospect since they take up a lot of precious real estate. It’s not a glamorous project, but we’ve been doing a little research on DIY trash bin hiding solutions. We came across a few posts that offered some inspiration, but we are planning to design something custom fit to our space and align with our home’s aesthetic.

We have been trying to get into the routine of playing more board games rather to get out of the rut of watching TV every night, plus they are fun! We always come back to head-to-head Scrabble games. I’m no professional, but I do have a pretty solid streak going against Nathan. We also love the craziness of the old classic, Balderdash and we get way too many laughs from What do you Meme. But we are always on the search for something new. Are there any favorites out there we could try out?

OTHER THINGS THAT CAUGHT MY EYE THIS WEEK:

Paul Graham makes a pretty succinct argument that in order to love work – first you have to learn what work truly means. This is a really interesting perspective on ‘work’.

We have been thinking about trying out hand at an over grout project in our home, we just are deciding where the best place to give this a try. The outside fireplace on the front of our home has somewhat of an over grouted look and we would love to create the look with one of the fireplaces inside, but with brick instead of stone!

This post from Doug Peacock (real life inspiration for Ed Abbey’s character George Washington Hayduke) about living in the Yellowstone backcountry got me thinking about the idea that an abode means seriously different things to different people.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
