Last week I paused my content to give those in the BIPOC community space to voice what’s truly important. I spent time learning, unlearning, and further educating myself on how to be a better ally, anti-racist, and support the Black Lives Matter movement. This isn’t a sprint for me, but a change for a lifetime. I don’t want this to be a “one week” event. I think it’s so, so important to continue and not resume “normal”, but actively continue learning, speaking out, and acting on ways to make change happen. I have been reading, watching, and listening. I have started reading the book Me and White Supremacy and as a person who felt fairly informed and aware, I’m honestly ashamed at how eye opening the book has been. Nathan and I also have watched a few things including the mini series When They See Us and the documentary 13th. I would recommend both if you are looking to further educate yourself on systematic racism. For myself, this is just a start and I plan to continue educating myself on racism and becoming a better ally to the BIPOC community.
I have started making a few changes to the living room like I mentioned in this post. I swapped our coffee table for our ottoman that I plan to recover and tested a few different fabrics on the ottoman. I did this by using curtains I had similar in colors to the fabrics I was thinking and draped I’m so glad I did this because I thought I would love a darker charcoal fabric on the ottoman (pictured above), but Nathan and I both agreed it is not right for the room. So I ended up ordering something completing different than I originally planned! I should be recovering the ottoman soon and our new media console will arrive at the end of the month!
We spent the weekend working on something exciting – the nursery! We started working on it last weekend by ripping out the existing closet shelves and rods, removing the wallpaper boarder, and patching all of the walls. This weekend we sanded and primed all of the walls, painted the trim and started painting the closet! It’s starting to come together. I will be 27 weeks on Tuesday, which means we have about 3 months until baby comes!
Speaking of pregnancy, I have been living in these leggings. I tried a two other pairs of less expensive leggings, but didn’t like either. These are by far worth the money and I know I wear them for the next 3 months straight. I have found as my belly gets bigger I feel more confident if I wear a shirt that is tighter and shows off the belly a bit, which is the total opposite of the clothing I usually wear! I bought this 3 pack of shirts and I wear them almost every single day – they are so soft and are longer (not super long though) and cover my bum a little when I’m wearing leggings, which I prefer.
We are definitely in baby prep mode in our house and have been trying to knock a few things off of our list each weekend, both bigger projects and smaller things that need to get done as well, while trying to make time for rest too. Now I’m off to put my feet up after a fairly active weekend.
Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
