Our office spaces in our home have been ever evolving. We try to keep two dedicated rooms as offices for both Nathan and myself. I first completed my office upstairs for the One Room Challenge almost 4 years ago and again when I moved my office downstairs. I started working from home full-time two years ago and now that I will be mostly working from home for the foreseeable future we decided that I should move my office back upstairs so I can have a door as our downstairs office doesn’t have one!
With all of the office shuffling we’ve done a lot of furniture re-arranging and as a result our office spaces are feeling like a mash-up of furniture, not in a good way. My upstairs office was not feeling very inspiring for a space I spend 9 hours a day in. I wanted to do a little refresh to make it feel more like me and be a room that I am excited to spend time in each day.

The Color
My hope for my office is that it feels cozy, inviting, and professional (since I do a lot of video Teams calls in here). After much debate between green, blue, and brown for a paint color I landed on a beautiful shade of muddy brown that has slight green undertones. I never thought I would paint another room brown again after living in our completely brown and beige previous new construction home! Never say never. My tastes have evolved and brown has definitely found it’s way back into my heart, I just needed a 6 year break. We’ve finished painting already and I love the color even more than I thought I would!
The Main Furniture Players
The upstairs office/bedroom isn’t a huge room, so I will be keeping furniture to a minimum. A new desk, an office chair, a comfy lounge chair, and a pouf will likely be the only pieces of furniture.
The Decor
I plan to add a gallery wall around the lounge chair, a few plants because this room gets great west facing light, a desk lamp, and a floor lamp. Minimal decor, with the focus being on the gallery wall. I’ve already thrifted a few great frames and ordered some prints to go in them! I imagine the gallery wall is something I will add to over time.
I am so excited for my office refresh to be completed – be sure to follow along on Instagram!
