The nursery is complete and I could not be happier. It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around the fact that we have a nursery in our house and we are going to be welcoming a baby in a matter of days. I have always imagined a serene and calming nursery with muted colors and after a rough journey to this baby I knew a serene and calming nursery is exactly what we needed.
As a reminder, this was the original plan for the space. Mostly neutral with muted green, blush, and blue.
The Finished Space

The tapestry on the wall behind the door is one of my favorite pieces in the nursery and helped set the color tones I brought into the rest of the space. It’s a nod to the outdoors, which is a very important part of our lives.
I love that the rug brings in some vintage charm. Plus vintage rugs are very, very forgiving with stains, so I feel comfortable having it in the nursery!
The corner with the chair and ottoman are my favorite part of the room. I imagine us spending a lot of time up here, looking out the windows, and watching the trees blow in the wind.
We tried to be intentional about the items we bought for the nursery and we didn’t want to buy a lot of baby specific items. The chair was brought in from our office, as well as the ottoman! The ottoman was a green velvet, but I recovered it in this light oatmeal fabric to flow better with the rest of the space. The table is something we’ve had since our first apartment! Pete has already claimed the ottoman – he likes to lay up here during the day sometimes and it’s the cutest. I know he’ll be in here with us a lot.
Since the tapestry leans more traditional I wanted to bring in more abstract art into the rest of the nursery to create the traditional modern balance I prefer. I painted a tiny rainbow watercolor for our rainbow baby.
We already have quite the collection of books from generous family and friends (this is just a small portion!). We both love to read and are very excited to read lots of books as a family. I am now thinking the room needs a bookshelf! Maybe down the road.
The dresser was a piece we have had since we got married. I knew it would be perfect for the nursery and decided to give it a coat of white paint to lighten it up. It’s the perfect spot for the changing pad and doubles as diaper and clothes storage too. I DIYed the high contrast abstract art above the dresser to bring in a little bit more of the modern feel, plus the frame is so lightweight and heavily secured to the wall so I’m not worried about it falling off.
The tiny baby moccasins on the dresser are the very first thing I bought for the baby and though I know they are too small to be worn for long – they are special nonetheless.
The crib is so special because it is actually the crib my parents used for my brothers and I when we were babies! It was originally an orange-y oak color, but we refinished it to a warm gray. The only thing this wall is missing is the mobile! The one I ordered is a modern brass kinetic mobile, but it was backordered and still hasn’t arrived.
We have many sweet stuffed toys and handmade blankets I know we will treasure for years to come. They are all so special and I have too many to display in the crib (baby will not be sleeping with them) that is really does make me want a bookshelf for all of the books and special sentimental items we have!
I find myself coming upstairs to the nursery and just taking it all in on a regular basis. It still doesn’t feel real that our baby will be here so soon. We are looking forward to all of the sweet memories this room will soon hold. It was a labor of love for a baby who is already so very loved.
