I still cannot believe I am actually planning a nursery. It is truly a dream come true. After 3 miscarriages in the past 2 years it feels surreal to be in my 32nd week of my 4th pregnancy. I am beyond happy and so very grateful. It’s just a matter of weeks before we get to meet this sweet babe.
We have been working on the nursery over the past month and I thought it was time to finally share the nursery design plan!
The Vision
We won’t find out the sex of the baby until delivery, so I wanted to create a neutral space that could grow with the baby over the years.
I did not want a specific “theme” for the nursery, rather I knew how I wanted it to feel. Warm, welcoming, cozy, and filled with light (with black out shades for sleeping).
I knew I wanted some sort of trim detail on the main wall of the nursery and landed on bead board inspired by my friend Kelly recently added in her bedroom. If you follow along with my Instagram stories you know we already finished the bead board – we love how it turned out!
I was originally intending on having a neutral light gray rug, a white crib, and a green dresser. The plan changed when we realized the rug we intended on using that was previously in our guest room had stains from our dog unfortunately marking his territory. We tried cleaning it in with every method possible – all sorts of carpet cleaning solutions (including my beloved Folex that usually never fails!), a carpet cleaning machine, and we even resorted to power washing it outside! Nothing took the stains out so we opted to not use it in the nursery. We ultimately decided to use the vintage rug we had originally put in the office for the nursery instead. I love this rug so much and even though it has slight blush pink undertones, I think it still serves as a perfect neutral piece.
We are doing our best to get crafty and mainly use furniture we already have for the nursery. The chair, dresser, rug, and ottoman are all pieces that we are repurposing for the nursery from other spots in the house. The nursery has caused a big furniture rearrange, but we are happy to be using what we have! The crib we are using was gifted from my parents and was actually the crib my brothers and I used growing up, which is so special! We will be refinishing it to go with the overall feel of the nursery a bit better.
The light blue curtains and the tapestry are both really the only “new” items for the nursery design. The tapestry was something I saw on Chris Loves Julia. I saw it and immediately knew it went with the vision I had for the nursery.
I am so excited with how everything is coming together and I can’t wait to share the space when it’s complete. I have a feeling it will be a contender for a favorite room in the house for me.
