I shared on my Instagram stories there are a few areas in our house that are constantly accumulating clutter. These are spaces that I wanted to tweak to make work better for our family. We will always have places that gather odds and ends, especially with a child in the mix, but I would like to minimize the clutter! Enter a simple spring decluttering challenge. A big spring clean and overhaul of our house sounds nice, but I know I do not have the time or mental bandwidth to tackle a whole house deep clean and decluttering right now. Instead of feeling discouraged and not doing anything I decided to identify the top 10 (small) areas that are driving me nuts right now and make a goal to tackle one area per day for 10 days.
I created a simple check list that you can use if you if you’d like to join in on the challenge yourself! The top 10 areas for your home may look different than mine, and that is okay!
My goal is to keep it simple. I don’t want buy a lot of organizing solutions. I’d love to make it work mostly using what I have, knowing I may purchase a few things if it makes sense.
Today is day 1 of this challenge for me! The first area I plan to tackle is what I like to refer to as our kitchen dumping zone. It’s this tiny 80s style desk area in our kitchen (that I’d love to get rid of someday) that always accumulates all the things, both on top of the desk, the counter next to the desk, and inside the desk drawers. It’s right inside the door to the garage so it’s an easy place to drop things when you come in. I’m fine with it being a drop zone, but I need a better system in place to keep the stuff organized.
At the end of the 10 days I’ll share a recap of how I addressed each space listed, what worked and what did not!
