I am all about making home decor simple. Both simple visually and simple to execute. But simple doesn’t have to mean boring!
Showing a change in season isn’t all about seasonal decor for me, it’s more about how our home feels. For fall it’s using richer colors, fuzzy throws, glowing candles, and the low fall sunlight streaming in the windows. I still add a few seasonal decor touches, but I want my home to feel like the season too.
I added a few fall and Halloween touches around the house using what I already had, really focusing on the way our home feels, rather than the amount of decor I used. That has been my mantra recently. Use what you have. That doesn’t mean I won’t ever buy anything new, but I am trying really hard to not buy things just because, especially when it comes to seasonal decor. I’m sure Nathan is chuckling reading this because he thinks we have mooooore than enough decor.

The Entryway
A white pumpkin, a pretty blue lumbar, and a blanket scarf are easy to add items that give the perfect little touch of fall to welcome you inside. Textiles immediately make a space feel more cozy and inviting to me, which is exactly how I want people to feel when they walk in our house.
The Living Room
I added one single black pumpkin mixed in with all of my normal decor on our dresser that acts as a console table. If I had more of these cute little pumpkins I would have added them, but one was all I had. This area is simple, but still adds a tidbit of the Halloween feel. Plus, my staple blanket basket filled with the chunky throw my mom knit me.
I swapped out a few of my pillows with these dark green velvet pillow covers to bring in more moodier colors. On the mantle I kept my staple mantle artwork since the dark moody colors like fall to me anyway. I think I tend to gravitate to fall type colors around our home regardless. I added a little skeleton man that Nathan named Kevin and my go to thrifted brass candlestick holders with black candle sticks for a touch of spooky. I really should photograph this space at night too because it is favorite! The decorative candles on the mantle and fall scented one on the coffee table glowing at night are just so cozy.
On the built in shelves I kept most of the decor the same like everywhere else, but added in a glass cinderella pumpkin (I want to keep it out year round it’s so pretty), a black skull, and mini white pumpkins in a bread bowl. Simple, yet a slightly darker color palette than the shelves usually have.
The Kitchen
On the table I added a my favorite wood server, with a thrifted terra cotta vase, fresh greenery from the yard, and an apple candle. This is such a simple and pretty centerpiece – inspired by Chris Loves Julia. I don’t usually keep anything on this table decor wise because it is well used, but this simple centerpiece really adds a nice warm touch that I now want to keep year-round.
A bowl of apples on the counter doubles as decor and snacks. We eat a lot of apples in our house, but especially in the fall when they are in season. It’s made even prettier in this thrifted wood bowl I found when we were in Michigan.
I hope you took away some tips for how to create a fall and Halloween feel in your home! I told you I keep things simple. Remember, even with minimal “seasonal” decorations you can still achieve the seasonal feel.
