On a whim I decided I wanted to see what our powder room would look like if the top portion of the walls (and ceiling!) were painted dark green. We had some leftover green paint from trying to paint our dining room dark green and we thought it would be juuuust enough for the small powder room! I absolutely love how it turned out.
This is the hardest room to photograph in our house as it has zero natural light and is a dark-ish hallway so this before and after is about the best I have! It’s hard to tell in the pictures, but I love how painting the ceiling dark along with the upper walls makes the ceiling feel so much taller! Rather than having a “stripe” of dark paint it now feels like the dark envelopes you in the best way possible.
The new color is Salamander by Benjamin Moore.
This change was inspired by Chris Loves Julia when they painted their daughters bathroom!
Maybe I will just cave and leave the lights on next time I photograph this space so you can get the full effect of the green better. Speaking of lights now I just need to paint the ceiling medallion behind the light fixture to match the green paint.
It’s a relatively small, easy, and free change that makes the bathroom feel just that much more in line with our style! I am so happy we decided to go for it! After all, it’s just paint. If there is a space in your home that you have wondered about… what if I painted it this color? I would encourage you to go for it! If you don’t like it, it can always be repainted. It’s your home, make it your own.
