Neutral, Simple & Cozy Main Bedroom - The Adored Abode

We finished a quick refresh of our main bedroom, just in time before baby boy makes his arrival! I wanted a neutral, simple and cozy main bedroom that felt uncluttered. Postpartum life with a newborn can be overwhelming and I wanted our room to feel like a retreat. I’m so happy to feel like we’ve achieved exactly what I was hoping for.

Main Bedroom Plan

Main Bedroom Design Plan - The Adored Abode

This was the plan for our bedroom and we ended up following the plan pretty closely!

The Final Product

Our room turned out just as I hoped it would, while ultimately not spending much money or buying too many new things. It can be easy to want to get rid of everything when giving a space a refresh, but I always try to reuse as much as I can. Some day we would love to get higher quality nightstands and lower, platform style of bed, but rethinking what we have made the room feel entirely different!

The only new items I purchased for the room were bedding – a new quilt, sheets, a duvet, and a lumbar pillow cover. Everything else we already owned and were simply repurposed from other areas of our house or were items I had in storage. Yes, this does can cause a whole home decor shuffle which Nathan loves – actually he’s a really good sport about it and the only things that make him cringe are moving rugs because they’re a pain! But really, I encourage you to shop your home before jumping to buy something new! You might surprise yourself with what you can come up with… and seeing a something (a piece of art, a rug, a pillow) in a different room can make you appreciate more or fall in love with it again!

The desk area is where I do most of my blog work from. I almost took it out of our room and put it in storage in the basement, but having a dedicated spot to keep myself organized really helps, plus I use it almost every day!

You can tell from the pictures but this paint color really changes depending on the amount of sunlight coming in the windows. I absolutely love the lighter color, it’s Balboa Mist by Benjamin Moore. I would describe it as a creamy, light gray. When the sun is shining in brighter (like the picture on the left) it reads a little brighter and cooler, but when the clouds cover the sun it takes on more of its true creamy gray hue.

I did a combination of thrifted/vintage, modern, and DIY art. The sketch above my desk is of a small town in Massachusetts near where Nathan’s cousin got married – I just happened to find at a thrift store in Kansas City! The oil painting above our bed was a very lucky thrift find, it was $20 and the frame alone is probably worth more than that. Plus, it’s a beautiful mountain scape that reminds me of our many hiking trips. The block art are pieces I made using a homemade potato block print. I was unsure if I’d like it when I did it, but I do still love them even years later. The black and white is an abstract piece I found on Etsy and had printed!

I kept things fairly simple, while adding in a few special things to make it feel cozy – just how we like it!
