The plans for our master bedroom refresh got a little sidelined when I decided to put the rug I ordered in the living room instead of the bedroom.
I wasn’t back to square one exactly because our DIY headboard slipcover, nightstands, and light fixture were all still staying the same. The rug was the only major change, but it was a big change because the moody rug I had initially planned was replaced with a lighter, more modern rug .
Instead of white curtains, I now am leaning towards a warmer or moodier curtains to bring in the extra contrast I was hoping for in the room.
I thought I would give you a peek into my thought process as I went through this mini redesign for our bedroom. I am a very visual person and love to see things laid out before I make any decisions, especially when designing rooms in our home. I made 6 different mood boards, all slight variations of the same design. I simply changed out the curtains, artwork, and nightstand hardware in each.
It’s amazing to me how such smallish changes can really change the whole feel of a room.
#1 – Creamy Curtains, Seascape, & Black Hardware
This feels calming, clean, a touch modern, and refreshing to me.
#2 – Creamy Curtains, Desert Print, & Gold Hardware
The creamy curtains and gold hardware, along with a more neutral print give a very layered feel to this design that feels very serene to me.
#3 – Gray Curtains, Seascape, & Black Hardware
The gray curtains next to the blue gray walls give a tone on tone look, paired with the black hardware feels a bit more modern and touch more masculine.
#4 – Gray Curtains, Desert Print, & Gold Hardware
Pairing the gray curtains with gold hardware and the lighter print make this version slightly more feminine than #3.
#5 – Green Curtains, Seascape, & Black Hardware
The green curtains paired with the more colorful seascape add a bit more drama and depth to this focal wall, while still feeling cohesive and relaxing.
#6 – Green Curtains, Desert Print, & Gold Hardware
The green curtains still add plenty of drama in this version, but paired with the gold hardware and the more neutral print it is a bit more muted and still feels very classic to me.
I have two favorites… any guesses on which ones they are??
Stayed tuned to see what we decide! I hope you liked seeing a little more behind the scenes of the design process. I do similar mood boards with different variations and options for every space I design because it really helps me nail down the feel I want the room to have.
