Our main bathroom renovation has been complete for a few months now and we are loving it! As part of the bathroom renovation we had our contractor completely reconfigure the existing bathroom and closet space to make the layout more usable and functional for us. The bathroom itself actually because a little smaller (though it now makes a much bigger impact!) and we increased the size of the closet. The contractor completely finished the bathroom, but we had him leave the closet an empty shell (he drywalled and added wood floors to match our bedroom) since we wanted to save a little money by doing the closet ourselves.
As a reminder, this is what our closet looked like before. It’s a terrible picture, but it’s the only one I can find from when we first moved in over 4 years ago – after we already ripped up the filthy carpet! The closet was roughly a 6’x6′ square with a hanging rod and shelf on 3 sizes – definitely did not use the space to the maximum!
This is the layout we had our contractor build out during our bathroom renovation. None of the closet shelving as described below was built/installed during the renovation – that is what we are tackling now!
The closet shelving on the right of the above drawing is still *mostly* accurate to what we plan to install today! However, our plan for the far left wall (to the left of the walkway through the closet) has changed a bit! We are planning to add a mirror to the far right wall instead. The far left wall will then have one tall (almost pantry-like cabinet) on the left and a counter area with laundry hamper storage below it and open shelving above it on the right!
I wanted to share the overall inspiration for the closet. This board is mainly just ideas and a general feel – the colors and exact layouts depicted will be different!

We are planning to start this closet project soon (hopefully in a few weeks!) and will likely do it in phases! This will be our first project with a baby in the house and we know our project timeline will look a little different than it used to and that is alright!
