Before baby boy comes I really wanted to do a light main bedroom refresh, mainly inspired by painting our room a lighter color. I love the darker color we painted it previously (Gray Pinstripe by Benjamin Moore), but wanted something a little lighter. This room doesn’t get much natural light and I found myself craving a lighter and brighter bedroom.
I told Nathan this will be our last DIY project before the baby comes. Painting the room turned into a quick refresh… if you give a mouse a cookie. Paint, new bedding (ours has seen better days thanks to two snuggly dogs) and swapping out a few decor pieces. Similar to a lot of room refreshes I do around our home I am planning to try and mostly use what we things we already own (art, curtains, etc.) and get creative with the rest.

Our Room After the Last Refresh
We refreshed our room 3 years ago when we painted it darker. I added darker curtains and hung a few art prints on the walls. It felt “done” for a little while, until we started our main bathroom renovation!
Our Room Currently
After we refreshed our room we had our primary bathroom renovated where we took everything out of our room to ensure it did not get dusty or damaged during renovation. After the renovation we never hung art back up on the walls and the bedding is very, very ripped. I realized too late that I didn’t even have a good picture of our current room, and at this point Nathan had already started prepping to paint. So yes, our room is already painted, though I won’t be sharing it quite yet! Now I am putting the finishing touches together like dyeing curtains, adding artwork, and getting the new bedding just right.
The Plan
I plan to use our existing bed, nightstands, rug and light fixture as the base. A fresh, lighter coat of paint (Balboa Mist by Benjamin Moore), new bedding, swapping out the art, and dying the curtains to add a little contrast will make the room feel a lot different – I hope!
