It’s over a week into the new year and I thought it was time I got back into the swing of blogging again! A few (or 7) months have past since my last post. We’ve had a lot happen in that time and I wanted to share a few life changes.
We’re having another baby!
The biggest news of all – another baby boy will be joining our family in early April! I’m 7 months pregnant and this pregnancy has been an emotional roller coaster to say the least. From thinking I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks (by some miracle I did not) to then finding out that something didn’t look quite right during my 20 week anatomy scan and subsequently needing a fetal MRI. My pregnancy is now considered high risk and we’ve met with multiple specialists for monitoring and making sure he doesn’t accumulate extra fluid on his brain. I’ll have regular ultrasounds the rest of my pregnancy. Right now everything is looking okay, and we pray it stays that way. For the sake of baby boy’s privacy I don’t think I’ll share what we discovered as it won’t be confirmed until after birth and even then we may not really know how it’s going to impact him. It’s been harder to find joy this pregnancy because it’s felt like we’ve been scared and unsure week after week, starting with the miscarriage scare. I finally (maybe) feel like that’s turning a corner and more joy is making it’s way in. Despite the fear and unknowns, we are so so excited to meet this little boy and can’t wait for Leo to meet his brother.
I Left My Corporate Job
Even before we knew I was pregnant we decided that I was going to leave my corporate job to stay home with Leo. Nathan took an awesome new opportunity with his previous company and we felt it was the right decision for our family for me to be home. The first 3 months of my life as a stay at home mom were mostly spent horizontal on the couch thanks to all day sickness (why is it called morning sickness?). Leo was a trooper and we watched way more TV than I ever care to, but we made it through. Now that I’m feeling better Leo and I are getting out of the house more and doing some small house projects together – he loves to grab his tool set when I say we have a new project to do!
A room switch-a-roo
We are in the process of switching all 3 of our bedrooms around upstairs because we like to make things difficult. Leo’s old room is the biggest bedroom so it will become the guest room and Nathan’s office when he occasionally works from home. We moved all the guest room/office furniture in, but the room is far from done in my mind. My old office is now Leo’s “big” room. We’ve made good progress on his room and I’m excited to share more about it when it’s done! The previous guest room is going to be the nursery. This room was originally going to be Leo’s nursery, but we ended up swapping him to another room because he was/is a lighter sleeper and this room faces the road in front of our house, another example of how we like to make things difficult. I have a plan for a better black out shades this time around so I’m hopeful we’ll have better luck with baby boy sleeping in here once he’s a bit older. The nursery will be similar to Leo’s nursery reveal because I’ll be using the same rug, dresser, crib and curtains, but I plan to switch up the decor and a few other things to make it feel special for baby boy.
Getting prepared for baby
Other than the room switch around, I have other things I am trying to do around the house to prepare us for baby boy. Mostly organizing all the things and simplifying what we have in our home. This year my goal is to focus on less stuff and more on just living. I get overwhelmed by too much clutter and the more things we have in our home the more there is to care for and clean. I am by no means a minimalist, but I am leaning harder into simplifying.
I’ll be sharing more about each of the rooms and other projects we hope to accomplish before early April!
