I shared our guest room plans months ago and truthfully the guest room has now been finished (and photographed) for months, but alas I am just getting around to writing the post.

It feels so nice to have a much more put together guest room for when we have people come stay with us, or more realistically, for our dog because we call this room his bedroom. Dogs deserve a pretty room too, right?
My goal with this refresh was to get creative and use items I already had, and where I wanted something “new” either thrift it or find something on sale, where possible. I’m thrilled to say I achieved my goal!
- Bed (already owned)
- Rug (already owned)
- Curtains (already owned)
- Night stands (thrifted – $6 for the pair!!!) – spray painted matte black
- Lamps (thrifted – $20 for the pair) – spray painted creamy white
- Lamp shades (new – $40 for the pair)
- Duvet cover set (new – $80)
- Sheets (already owned)
- Quilt (already owned)
- Mirror (already owned) – rub & buffed in Antique Gold
- Art (already owned)
- Plant & planter (already owned)
- Bench (thrifted – already owned)
All in all, I spent $140 on “new” to me items for this room refresh.
Cozy and modern, with warmer accent colors was my initial vision.
The end result is pretty close to my initial vision.
The thrifted lamps and tables turned out even better than I expected.
I rub and buffed a floor mirror I already had. I wanted the gold to be similar in color to the light fixture. I like mixing metals, but if I have gold tones in the room I prefer them to be similar in shade – and the light fixture is more of a warmer gold, where the mirror was more of a champagne.
This is my favorite view of all. Just the mix of colorful and neutral I wanted.
This was a pretty minor room refresh. The base of the room was already complete (paint, flooring, etc.), but it was still exciting to make the space feel much more put together and intentional. I hope this inspires you to get creative with a room in your house! A room refresh doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Get creative – shop your house and hit up the thrift store. It really can pay off.
