Friday 5 (vol. 11)

February 2, 2018

Welcome to The Friday 5 for this week where I share interior design ideas,  home decor inspiration, DIY, products I am loving, and organization tips and tricks… and really anything else as it comes to mind!

ONE

These three glimpses of stairways by Studio McGee are serving as all sorts of inspiration for our upcoming stairway revamp. Chunky square newel posts, square balusters, wood treads, and a carpet runner are all going to make an appearance on our new stairs. I cannot wait to start this project and we are just in the very beginning stages of planning. I am going to try to not be impatient about it.

TWO

Related to the stairway discussion, we are debating if we want hardwoods or carpet in our upstairs hallway and bedrooms. There was previously nasty and old carpet upstairs before we ripped it all out (a certain dog was having a few accidents upstairs). We also LOVE the hardwoods we installed downstairs (other than I would have gone a shade or two lighter because it shows every white dog hard and dust particle). They are super durable and we are able to get them for a steal thanks to our neighbor who is in wholesale flooring sales. So it makes the hardwoods the exact same price (for product and installation) as nicer carpet would be. I like the idea of carpet upstairs because it’s softer and quitter, but Nathan prefers the idea of hardwoods and says I have a rug obsession anyway. Then there’s the whole dog having accidents problem, we aren’t sure that’s going to go away, but we’re working on it. Rugs are much easier to clean/replace than carpet. We had almost pulled the trigger on hardwoods, but then I keep waffling back and forth. What would you do?!

THREE

This tea is saving me. I am trying to drink less coffee (I find it makes me too jittery and I think it is not helping my quest to rid myself of migraines). Plus, the tea is on the sweeter side so sometimes I will drink a second cup in the afternoon to curb my sweet tooth craving.

FOUR

I get on kicks with food where I want to eat something all.the.time. Right now my kick is a hearty Greek salad. Below is my favorite easy Greek salad recipe. Sometimes I eat it as a meal and sometimes we split it as a side salad with our meal. You could easily add meat to it if you desire.

Mix all below ingredients in a large bowl until combined:

1 head of romaine (chopped)

1 cup of spinach (chopped)

1 roma tomato (diced)

¼ red onion (sliced in to thin strips)

¼ cup sliced banana peppers (from the jar – chopped into small pieces)

¼ olives of choice (chopped)

¼ cup feta

½  cup Greek dressing (for homemade whisk all ingredients below together)

2 tbps red wine vinegar

slightly less than 1/3 cup olive oil

½ tbsp oregano

½ tbsp basil

¼ tbsp salt

¼ tbsp pepper

FIVE

The sale section at HM has a number of items that caught my eye recently. I could not say no to this cozy sweater and this casual button up. Clearly I have a thing for green.

Hope you have a great weekend, friends!
