I am finally catching up on writing the smaller DIY posts from our office that we completed as part of the fall One Room Challenge. The reveal was back in November! I can’t believe it’s now almost February, where has time gone?
The first project up is the DIY pinboard I created for the office. I knew I wanted a place that acted like a real-life Pinterest board in our office (you should follow me on Pinterest if you don’t already – I share lots of ideas that are inspiring current and future projects!). I love Pinterest, but I also love cutting things out of magazines and drawing inspirations from swatches and samples in real life.
As a kid I always had a cork board that I used to pin all sorts of things to. Notes from my friends, cards, pictures, postcards… you name it. I wanted to take the cork board idea and make it a little prettier by wrapping the cork board in fabric that went with the style of the office.

Supplies
This is a super easy DIY! You only need a few items and about 30 minutes.
- Cork board
- Staple gun
- 1 yard of fabric (per cork board)
The Process
I decided to make a bigger impact with the DIY pinboard by stacking two cork boards on the wall in the office. To start, I bought two of these large framed cork boards. Susse is always the best project helper.
I happened to have a stash of leftover fabric and remnants I have purchased over the years so I luckily had fabric on that I wanted to use for this project. I went with a simple, neutral check pattern that would not distract from the items I would later pin to the board. If you don’t have a fabric stash like I do I would highly recommend checking out the remnants section at your local fabric store. This is my go to place to any projects where I need smaller amounts of fabric because they are always marked down.
I cut the fabric to the size of the cork board, leaving a little over an inch to spare around all of the edges, laying the board face down on the fabric. I used the staple gun and started stapling the fabric to the back edge of the wooden boarder surrounding the board. As I went around the board I made sure to pull the fabric really tight so there would be no gapping on the front. The back of the board doesn’t need to be pretty since it will never be seen, so I just made sure the fabric from folding the corners over wasn’t visible from the front.
I hung the boards using the hanging hardware that came with them – it was very simple! I was careful to leave the pre-made holes on the back of the frame were not covered up by fabric. When hanging the board you just need to make sure the board is level, but since I was hanging two I also needed to measure the spacing between the boards.
The Final Product
This is what the DIY pinboards looked like for the office reveal. I pinned up a few items I already had and called it a day.
After we finished the office, Nathan and I each ended up taking a board and creating “vision” boards for ourselves – essentially visioning what we want with our lives, with pictures and quotes that inspire us. We spent New Year’s Eve at home snacking on nachos and going through magazines, cutting out pictures, and pinning them to our boards. That might make us sound old, but it was truly a fun date night in that we both enjoyed!
I love how the pinboards turned out (his is the top, mine is the bottom). Now every time we go into the office or are working at the desk it is a reminder of all of the dreams we have for ourselves and the direction we want our life to take.
