Upstairs Office - The Adored Abode

I made a DIY fluted lamp for my office. I’m sharing a step by step tutorial for how to get this look in your home! It’s an easy DIY that can be done in less than a day.

Supplies

  • Lamp base (I chose a skinnier base)
  • 1/2″ dowel rods (I used 3 packages)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Primer
  • Paint

The Process

Start by removing the lamp shade from the base so you don’t get hot glue or paint on it.

I wanted to give this lamp a different look so I decided to add fluting to it!

You can either by pre-cut dowels or by a dowel stick that you cut into the lengths you need based on the height of your lamp. I determined the 12″ pre-cut dowels were perfect my lamp base and decided to use them to make the project that much easier.

I then hot glued each dowel rod to the base of the lamp. The dowels didn’t quite reach all the way up my lamp base, but I was not bothered by this because I knew the shade would cover it. If you run into this issue you can always cut a dowel stick in the exact lengths you want!

Next up was priming, caulking and painting. After I primed the lamp I realized I needed to caulk in between each of the dowels. As the hot glue dried the dowels had settled a bit and were not flush like I had wanted. Caulking was an easy fix for this!

I opted to paint the lamp a pretty blue-gray, Benjamin Moore Blue Springs.

After the base has fully dried you can now add the bulb and shade back on – and you have what feels like a brand new lamp for very minimal cost!
