Last year I wrote a 2019 project preview post and I loved to look back to see how much we truly did accomplish in 2019 and wanted to do the same for 2020!
Below are all of the projects we hope to accomplish in 2020. The projects are a mix of big and small – some are whole room renovations, others are simple updates. Our house is very much a work in progress and I want to do a better job of showing off our untouched and “in the middle” spaces on the blog.

1. MASTER BATHROOM
Our master bathroom is the first big project we hope to get done in 2020. If you can’t tell from the picture above, it will be a complete gut! This picture was taken shortly after we moved in. The columns are gone now and the half wall now goes all the way to the ceiling. Everything else will be going once we start the project! After finishing our upstairs bathroom late last year and knowing how long it took us to do that bathroom and that our master bathroom is almost 3 times the size, which means 3 times the tile – we are looking into hiring out almost this whole project. We are currently in the process of getting estimates from contractors!! Fingers crossed the bids aren’t astronomical (for us) and we can actually utilize the expertise of a contractor, especially for some of the more difficult tasks like moving pluming and installing/tiling a very large custom shower. During this renovation we plan to move upstairs (our master bedroom is on the main floor) and stay in the guest room while it’s being completed!
2. LIVING ROOM REFRESH
This is one of those “in the middle” spaces. We have done so much in our living room! We painted all the panel molding, had new hardwoods installed, got a new sofa, a new rug, and a new chair. But the space still doesn’t feel quite right to me. I struggle with adding art to the walls because of the panel molding, but art is something I would like more of in the room. I would also like to either paint our existing dresser turned media stand or get new one. The current red undertones of the dresser don’t work well with our flooring, coffee table, or fireplace. I have debated lime-washing the fireplace since we’ve moved in, but Nathan isn’t sure – I think I will photoshop some mockups of what it would look like to help us decide! Mounting the TV is also something that needs to happen too.
3. NEW FRONT DOOR
We have wanted a new front door since we moved in. It’s funny because when we purchased our home the beveled glass front door was listed as a selling feature. It may be for some, but it definitely wasn’t a selling feature for us! We prefer a cleaner, more modern style with traditional elements and that’s the direction we hope to go with our front door! We’d love a stained wood door to warm up the front of our home.
4. FINISH STYLING OUR PATIO & LANDSCAPING
Our new patio was installed last year and afterward we added landscaping rocks and new plants around the patio to make our previous mud pit of a yard much more useable! This year we hope to give our patio furniture a refresh – our large lounge chairs will be staying, but our table sat uncovered for way too long and now has some sever water damage. We hope to add a nice long table to be able to host family and friend dinners outside! We also hope to add new chairs, string lights, and more planters.
5. REPAINT & STYLE UPSTAIRS HALL
This is another “in the middle” space. We had new floor, railings and trim installed 2 years ago. We painted the walls, but I do not like how the paint color leans purple in person. We plan to repaint the walls above the chair rail, add a rug (the one pictured above lives in our entryway), art, and a table or bench.
6. BUILT-INS IN THE DEN/OFFICE
After we finished both the den and office One Room Challenges we decided it made a lot more sense for our office to be downstairs so we moved the desk and monitor downstairs to the den. Currently the den has no storage so we want to add built-ins to create some closed storage as well as shelving for books! The former office upstairs will eventually be repurposed, but we aren’t sure when.
Since we know our master bathroom will be a big project, from both a money and time perspective, we made sure most of the remaining projects were smaller in scale. 1 major renovation a year is about all we can handle!
I am looking forward to what 2020 brings and can’t wait to see what our home looks like a year from now!
